CASEYVILLE, Ill. – An Illinois police officer is being hailed as a hero after he rescued a choking baby last week, authorities said.

According to KMOX, the incident occurred Friday evening in Caseyville, a St. Louis suburb. In a Facebook post Monday, Caseyville police said Officer Travis Hoguet sprang into action after hearing a radio call about a 4-month-old baby in distress. The child was choking, acording to the report.

“Officer Hoguet responded prior to the ambulance and was able to dislodge the obstruction and the baby began to breathe on his own,” the Facebook post read. “Because of his quick-thinking actions, the infant is back at home recovering.”

The department went on to share two photos of Hoguet holding the smiling baby.

“We are proud to call Travis one of our own,” the post read.
