South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have struck a deal with ViacomCBS Inc., and it’s a big one. After paying a staggering $900 million price tag, the media giant has insured that the longest running scripted series on cable is not going anywhere any time soon.

On Aug. 5, MTV Entertainment Studios announced the news. South Park will remain on Comedy Central through 2027, ultimately leading to the show’s 30th season. That being said, there is more to the massive deal than the promise of more episodes. The new streaming service Paramount+ will also benefit a great deal.

Paramount+ will receive a whopping 14 made-for-streaming South Park movies throughout the length of the deal, including two films intended to release in 2021. Bloomberg also reported that Trey Parker and Matt Stone plan to use the money earned from the recent deal with ViacomCBS Inc. to create a new South Park video game, a documentary series and a marijuana company.

The animated comedy South Park first aired in 1997, having earned the show the title of longest running scripted series on cable. Season 24 specials “The Pandemic Special” and “South ParQ Vaccination Special” most recently graced television in September 2020 and March 2021. A release date for the full 24th season has yet to be announced.
