BATON ROUGE, La. – A Louisiana toddler is recovering from injuries after police said he discovered a gun in his Baton Rouge home and accidentally fired it at himself.

According to WBRZ and WAFB, the incident occurred about 7 p.m. Monday at a residence near the intersection of Scenic Highway and 75th Avenue. A 3-year-old boy found a gun, which discharged, striking and injuring him, a parent told Baton Rouge police.

The boy was taken to an area hospital for treatment of his wounds, which were not believed to be life-threatening, the news outlets reported.

Police continue to investigate the case, WBRZ reported. Authorities have not announced any arrests in connection with the shooting.
