Firefighters from Frewsburg had to break up the ice Wednesday morning that had coated the water to get to the dog whose back legs had fallen through the ice, WIVB reported.

Two volunteers dressed in wet suits were able to get to the struggling dog, named Tux, and carry him to shore, The Post-Journal reported.

Tux also helped himself get out of his cold situation.

“He saw them and got excited,” Nick Niles told the newspaper. “He was able to crawl out to them. The ice was very thin, and then they were able to get to him.”

The firefighters dried Tux off in the comfort of the warm fire engine, WIVB reported.
