HOUSTON – Police say a suspected car burglar has died after he was shot by people who were trying to stop him, and then run over by a possible accomplice.
Investigators said three men confronted another man whom they saw breaking into a truck, and one of the three men pulled out a pistol and opened fire, KHOU reported. The suspect tried to run away but was hit.
A brother of one of the men who tried to stop the suspect told KTRK his brother saw the suspect trying to break into a neighbor’s car, prompting the group to try to protect it. “So my brother calls, and he’s like, ‘What are you doing?’ And then he calls my other brothers for backup, so that’s when everything else happened. And I hear my brothers, and I see that’s it’s my brothers, so they are telling me, ‘Call 911. Call 911. He just got ran over.’ And I’m like, ‘Who?’”
Police say that after the man was shot, a light blue car ran over the suspect. Police told KRIV the woman believed to be driving the Nissan may have dropped the would-be burglar off, and then ran over him when trying to get away from the area. Police said a young child may also have been in the car.
The suspect was found by police and taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, KHOU reported.
Police are still trying to find the woman who was in the Nissan Rogue, KTRK reported.
