GREENFIELD, Ind. – An Indiana man has been creating snow sculptures for some time, but this year’s effort is out of this world.
Rick Horton, of Greenfield, created a 5-foot character of Grogu, also known as “Baby Yoda” of the Star Wars Disney+ TV series “The Mandalorian,” the Indianapolis Star reported.
Horton said he began planning for the snow sculpture in December, asking people on his Facebook page, “The Snow Artist,” for ideas, WTHR reported.
After deciding on the Baby Yoda character, Horton began sketching ideas.
It took seven hours for Horton to build the character, the Star reported. Horton posted his progress on The Snow Artist page, including sketches and a clay sculpture of the character, the newspaper reported.
“I almost didn’t get to complete this sculpture because the day that I began the temperature got up to 36 degrees and the snow was melting,” Horton wrote on his Facebook page. “But later that day the temp dropped to 32 and I was able to complete it.”
Horton’s initial Baby Yoda post has gone viral, with more than 28,000 reactions and 19,000 shares, the Star reported.
Although it was cold last weekend, Horton still had to put up a shield to prevent Baby Yoda from melting, WTHR reported.
In 2019, Horton carved two snow sculptures of bald eagles. His Facebook page depicts photos of his past sculptures. They included an IndyCar, fish, a giant snake, a dog and an army of Minions from the “Despicable Me” movie series, WTHR reported.
