MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A long-haired Chihuahua had been missing for at least two days until someone heard whining from an old septic tank.

The fire department for Murfreesboro, situated 30 miles southeast of Nashville, sprang into action when they were called to see if they could help rescue the tiny dog Friday night.

Two Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department units, Ladder 1 and Rescue 1, managed to fish the scared dog out of the tank.

The department posted a photo on Facebook showing the smiling rescuers and the relieved owner holding her tiny pup.

Ladder 1 and Firefighter Dunfee expanded their pet rescue tally to include small dogs. They are no longer simply the cat whisperers. The long-haired Chihuahua had fallen into an old septic tank on Bradyville Pk after being missing for two days. It was heard whining tonight and Ladder 1 went out to see if they could help. Ladder 1 with the help of Rescue 1 was able to lift the dog out. The dog was reunited with its owner and they were very appreciative. Great work Ladder and Rescue 1!
