CARNEGIE, Pa. – A Pennsylvania man is facing charges in connection with the death of his 4-year-old son in May.

Van Redding is now charged with the death of his son Avant Redding.

Police were called when a car ran into multiple vehicles during a hit-and-run. Van Redding eventually told police that he was rushing his son to a hospital after the child had eaten off a coffee table and became sick, WPXI reported.

Avant Redding later died. His cause of death was fentanyl toxicity.

When police searched the man’s apartment they said they found medical marijuana, pills and a white powder that was found to contain fentanyl, WPXI reported.

Redding has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, endangering the welfare of a child and possession with intent to deliver, WPXI reported.
