July 27th, 1981 Stevie Nicks released her debut solo album “Bella Donna”.
Stevie’s plan for a solo album was to make a Tom Petty record, straight up Rock N’ Roll.
At this point Stevie hadn’t met Tom yet.
She also wanted to sing with her 2 backing singers, like Crosby, Stills and Nash.
Once she told the people who were on her team about her plan for her first solo album, the next thing was to secure a producer.
Since her goal was to make a Tom Petty record, she went with Tom’s producer Jimmy Iovine.
The album featured Stevie’s signature song “Edge Of Seventeen” along with 2 hit duets, “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” with Tom Petty and “Leather And Lace” with Don Henley.
The album reached platinum by October 1981 and stayed on the Billboard charts for 3 years, from July 1981 to June 1984.
Below hear Stevie talk about making the album and meeting Tom Petty from her Rock Hall induction speech, as well as check out some videos from the record.
