Odessa Fire and Rescue battalion chief Larry Norrid pulled the pup named Suitey from the half-frozen pond after escaping her owner, KWES reported.

“It’s the satisfaction of the job, that’s why everyone in this department does what they do, the satisfaction we get from helping people in a time of need,” Norrid said.

Suitey had been in the water for about 30 minutes before firefighters arrived, KOSA reported.

The dog was reunited with her owners and is recovering.

“I’ve been with OFR 23 years, in my career I’ve rescued one cat out of a tree and I thought that was going to be my bragging point,” Norrid said. “But now I can say I’ve rescued a dog too so I’m completely happy with it, so I’ll retire this summer and I’ve hit all my highlights.”
