LEXINGTON, Ky. – Police in Lexington, Kentucky, helped to reunite a pet monkey with its owners after it went missing during a car crash Tuesday.

In a Facebook post, the Lexington Police Department said that on Tuesday, officers received a call about a missing monkey named Max. His family was driving on Interstate 75 when it was involved in a car crash. In the crash, Max got loose and disappeared.

Some road crew members in the area spotted Max and called the Lexington Police Department, WAVE reported.

When officers arrived in the area, they went looking for him along with crew members from the Lexington Fayette Animal Care and Control, according to WAVE.

Officers were able to contact Max’s family and reunite them, authorities said.

Max is a capuchin monkey, according to the Lexington Police Department.

Officers never know what type of call they will receive out on patrol. But today, we were happy to help a family be reunited with their capuchin monkey, named Max,” said Lexington Police Department on Facebook.
