The Saco Police Department said its officers were called to the Ramada by Wyndham Saco/Old Orchard Beach Area just before 4:30 a.m. because of two people breaking windows and other items in a room, WCSH reported.

The people in the room, identified as Timothy Nichols, 34, and Nicole Davis, 40, told officers who responded that they were on hallucinogenic drugs, had weapons and chemicals and threatened to kill officers, the Portland Press Herald reported.

Officers evacuated the other guests of the hotel. While trying to negotiate with the couple inside the room, investigators said they heard a struggle, which made them believe they needed to intervene, WGME reported.

When police broke into the room, they took Nichols and Davis into custody, WCSH reported. Also in the room were a 7-year-old child and a dog. The dog was hurt and was taken to an animal hospital.

Both adults were charged with aggravated criminal mischief, creating a police standoff and endangering the welfare of a child, the Portland Press Herald reported.
