MEMPHIS, Tenn. – An off-duty police officer was killed in a wreck overnight in Memphis, Tennessee, authorities said.

According to WHBQ-TV, the crash occurred about 10 p.m. Monday in the Whitehaven neighborhood as a Memphis police officer was leaving the Raines Precinct. Crews rushed the officer and driver of the other vehicle to a nearby hospital, where the officer died, authorities said.

Early Tuesday, Memphis police tweeted that the driver, who was treated for “non-critical” injuries, has been detained but not charged, WHBQ reported.

Police have not yet released the identity of the officer, according to the news outlet.
