CANTON, Ohio – An 11-year-old boy accidentally shot and injured his 12-year-old friend as the two were playing with a gun during a sleepover at the older child’s Ohio home, authorities said.
According to the Canton Repository and WHBC, the shooting occurred early Tuesday at a home on Cherry Avenue in Canton. The mother of the 12-year-old boy said she awoke to a “loud bang” shortly before 2 a.m. and discovered that her son had been shot by another boy, who was staying over, the Repository reported. Investigators said the children had been playing with a 9mm handgun, according to the newspaper.
Canton police said the 12-year-old is expected to survive his injuries and consider the shooting an accident, the Repository reported.
