EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – New York Giants defensive back Logan Ryan said a team trainer potentially saved the life of his pregnant wife.
Ashley Bragg Ryan underwent emergency surgery for an ectopic pregnancy on Tuesday in Florida, ESPN reported. She had also gone to Florida to vote and told her husband that she was feeling intense stomach pain and wanted to sleep it off, the network reported.
Logan Ryan, who was still in New Jersey following the Giants’ 25-23 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday, mentioned his wife’s condition to team trainer Justin Maher.
“She wanted to sleep it off,” Logan Ryan, 29, told reporters during a Zoom call on Wednesday. “She was in extreme pain but she said she’ll wait ’til the morning. I talked to one of our trainers about the symptoms. He said ‘No, she needs to go to the ER.’”
“My wife ended up going to the ER and they ended up catching an ectopic pregnancy where the egg was in the wrong place in her fallopian tube and it was about to burst.”
An ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg grows outside of the uterus, according to Bleacher Report. Logan Ryan said his wife is “recovering well” from surgery.
“And that is the type of organization we have here. Honestly, I wasn’t going to talk about that,” Logan Ryan, playing in his eighth NFL season and his first with the Giants, told reporters. “My kids are OK. My wife is recovering well. She is OK. This happened all yesterday. And (Giants head coach) Joe Judge said, if you need to fly to Florida, don’t worry about football. That’s what Joe is as a man and as a coach.”
