RICHMOND, Va. – It was a sweet treat for a Virginia man and his children.
Dennis Willoughby went into a convenience store in Richmond last month to buy some chocolate milk and decided to buy a $10 scratch-off ticket. The result was a $1 million jackpot, according to Virginia Lottery officials.
Willoughby, who bought the ticket at a 7-Eleven, hit it big in the $1,000,000 Platinum Jackpot game, lottery officials said.
The happy dad decided to take a one-time cash option of $640,205 before taxes, according to a Virginia Lottery news release on Wednesday.
Willoughby is the second player to claim the top prize in the scratch-off game. One more grand prize ticket has yet to be claimed.
According to the Virginia Lottery, the odds of winning the top prize in the Platinum Jackpot game are 1 in 1,632,000.
Game officials did not say how Willoughby intended to spend his cash — although an ample supply of chocolate milk is certainly a possibility.
