Police responded to a call about a disturbance involving a weapon around 6:25 p.m. and found Stephanie Hunt on the floor of the house dead from a stab wound, WDAF reported.

Her brother, Michael H. Childs, told investigators he was drinking and the two got into a fight over $100 he owed her, WDAF reported.

He said the fight became physical. He told police that he fell to the ground twice and that Hunt tried to attack him with a butcher knife but he took it away from her. When she started throwing objects at him, he waved the knife at her in an attempt to “fend her off.” Childs said he cleaned the knife after Hunt went to lie down.

However, investigators found no signs of a struggle in the house and Childs showed no signs of injury. Police said Hunt had a broken nail, a scratch on her forearm and knife wound on her body. Investigators said Childs did not think the cut was enough to kill her.

Childs, 68, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. He is being held on $75,000 bond. He faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted.
