YALE, Okla. – An Oklahoma mother is behind bars after police said she stabbed her newborn baby.
According to the Stillwater News Press, Payne County sheriff’s deputies arrested Victoria Shane Matheson, 25, of Yale, late Saturday after she stabbed the approximately 2-week-old baby and another person at a 68th Street home, authorities said. She is being held on charges of assault and battery with a deadly weapon, domestic assault and battery, and child abuse by injury, according to Payne County jail records accessed early Thursday.
The incident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday, authorities said. After the stabbing, a family member rushed the infant to a nearby fire department, the News Press reported. The baby, who had suffered a stab wound to the abdomen, was taken to Stillwater Medical Center and later flown to OU Children’s Hospital, according to the newspaper.
Meanwhile, deputies responded to the home and found the second victim suffering from a non-life-threatening stab wound, the News Press reported. That victim refused to be treated, authorities said.
Deputies said they found Matheson sitting in a chair with dried blood on her hands, leg and face, according to the newspaper. Authorities arrested her and booked her into the Payne County Jail.
Matheson’s mother said her daughter suffered from postpartum depression, the News Press reported.
