2-year-old shot while sitting in highchair; man arrested, reports say
LORAIN, Ohio – Police have arrested a man suspected of shooting a 2-year-old boy in the head while the child was sitting in a highchair at a home in Lorain on Wednesday night, according to multiple reports.
Officers arrested Benjamin Richardson, 26, on one count of felony assault after police were called around 10:20 p.m. Wednesday to a report of a child who was shot in the head, WJW and The Chronicle-Telegram reported. The toddler was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injury, although his condition was not known as of Thursday, WJW reported.
The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation.
Witnesses told police that they had seen a relative nearby with a shotgun before the shooting, although it was not immediately clear whether the relative was Richardson, according to WJW. The Chronicle-Telegram reported Richardson was arrested at the scene of the shooting and that officers recovered a shotgun.
Authorities continue to investigate.
