The Big News: The Texans hire a new head coach and QB Deshaun Watson formally requests a trade! ESPN’s Adam Schefter discusses the news on ESPN today.

After firing head coach Bill O’Brien last season and finishing with a 4-12 record, the Texans looked to this offseason to get the organization back on the winning path. Today’s news will make it harder.

QB Deshaun Watson has formally requested a trade. According to ESPN reporter Adam Schefter, the request was made weeks ago. Apparently, Watson was unhappy with the hiring process of new GM Nick Caserio and the new head coach. Watson set career highs in passing yards, touchdowns, and completion percentage this season. He threw for 33 touchdowns and 4,823 passing yards which were single-season franchise records. He was the NFL’s leader in pass completion percentage during this 4-12 season. Even with a new 4 year contract extension, he wants out of Houston.

The news of Watson’s trade request comes on the heels of news that the Texans hired a new head coach. 65 year old David Culley signed a 5 year deal with the Texans. He was the receivers coach and assistant head coach for the Baltimore Ravens last year but has never been a head coach or coordinator in the NFL.

The big question is what now? Can the new head coach change Watson’s mind and get him to stay? Do the Texans trade Watson? Does he sit out the season?

The troubles for the Texans are far from over.
