Disney released a new trailer Wednesday for The Muppets’ first-ever unscripted series, and anyone stuck at home trying to navigate a post-shutdown return to work is already in on the joke.
The new show, “Muppets Now,” is slated to premiere July 31 on the Disney Plus streaming platform, featuring the beloved Jim Henson characters acting out improvisational sketches and other “unscripted scenarios” for the first time in the franchise’s history, Rolling Stone reported.
From Kermit and Miss Piggy to Gonzo and the Swedish Chef, the two-minute trailer reunites the iconic cast on a video call to discuss the new show’s format.
Viewers also get their first glimpse of “Joe,” a weasel from the legal department and the newest addition to the troupe, who walks the ensemble through the digital content “Muppets Now” is expected to produce, Variety reported.
Much like the gang’s previous incarnations, the streaming collection of “muppisodes” will feature a bevy of guest stars interspersed with improvised sketches, produced by Muppets Studio and Soapbox Films, the entertainment news site reported.
Each muppisode, a term Joe from Legal says will enhance the show’s intellectual property, will focus on a different topic related to lifestyle, game shows, interviews, cooking and science. Meanwhile, a previous trailer teased a star-studded celebrity guest pool ranging from Aubrey Plaza and Seth Rogan to Judy Hale and RuPaul, Rolling Stone reported.
