A New Jersey man is accused of killing his 89-year-old grandmother, who was found dead at her home in August, authorities said Tuesday.
Shawn H. Gonzalez, 39, of Carteret, was charged with murder in connection with the Aug. 27 death of Dolores Babij, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Babij died a month short of her 90th birthday, according to her obituary.
Carteret police were called to a residence at about 4 a.m. on Aug. 27, NJ.com reported.
Authorities said they found Babij dead in a chair, according to a statement from the prosecutor’s office.
Detectives said, “Babij was assaulted and killed by Gonzalez earlier that morning,” NJ.com reported.
Authorities did not release any information about a cause of death or a motive for Babij’s death, the website reported.
