Benjamin David Elliott, 17, of Katy, was charged with first-degree murder, KHOU reported. Bail was set at $100,000 bond, the television station reported.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a home in the Houston suburb on Wednesday and found Elliott in a bedroom performing CPR on his sister, Meghan Elliott, KTRK reported.

Meghan Elliott had several stab wounds to her neck, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez told reporters.

According to court records, Benjamin Elliott told authorities that sometime after 2:30 a.m. CDT, he woke up in his sister’s bedroom and saw a knife in her neck, KHOU reported. The teen told deputies that after he realized he was not dreaming, he removed the knife, turned on the light and placed pressure on his sister’s wound with a pillow, according to the television station.

Dispatchers gave Benjamin Elliott directions on how to perform CPR on his sister, who had been stabbed at least two times, KTRK reported. The teen later reportedly admitted to deputies that he does not suffer from sleep irregularities and was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs before he went to bed, the television station reported.

The Elliott family released a statement to KPRC through their attorney, William Weston Rucker III.

“We are still gathering all of the facts and details of this tragedy,” the statement read. “There is no question Benjamin loved his sister very much. They were extremely close and the best of friends. The family is asking for privacy as they process this heartbreaking event.”
