South Carolina woman charged for allegedly practicing medicine without license
COLUMBIA, S.C. – A woman in South Carolina has been charged for allegedly practicing medicine without having a license.
According to a news release from the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office, Alyssa Beth Steele, 37, has been arrested for allegedly practicing medicine as a registered nurse even though she does not have a license. She was allegedly working at seven different nursing and assisted living facilities in Anderson, Greenville and Picken counties.
The South Carolina Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (SCMFCU) learned that between Jan. 15, 2020, and Jan. 19, 2022, Steele allegedly used a State of Georgia Board of Nursing license number that was not hers to be employed at the seven facilities, according to the attorney general’s office. All of the facilities cooperated with the investigation.

- Iva Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Iva
- Piedmont Post Acute in Piedmont
- Brookdale Assisted Living Facility in Anderson
- Condor Health in Anderson
- Easley Place Assisted Living Facility in Easley
- Fleetwood Rehabilitation and Healthcare Assisted Living in Easley
Steele has been charged with seven counts of neglect of a vulnerable adult, five counts of unlicensed practice as a registered nurse, a count of financial identity fraud to obtain employment and a count of obtaining a signature or property under false pretenses, according to the attorney general’s office.
