EL PASO, Texas – At least one person was killed and dozens of others were evacuated from their homes after a train derailed, striking a gas line in El Paso, Texas, authorities said.

According to KFOX and KTSM, the incident occurred shortly before 9:20 p.m. Monday along Barton Street in the Lower Valley. The El Paso Fire Department tweeted that two train cars derailed, killing one person and damaging a gas meter, fence and backyard shed. Nobody else was hurt, the department said.

Emergency responders also evacuated 50 people from the area as crews worked to fix the gas line, the news outlets reported. Those residents were later allowed to return to their homes, officials said.

Union Pacific and Texas Gas crews also responded to the incident, KFOX reported.
