SUMTER, S.C. – A South Carolina hospital worker has died after a patient allegedly hit him.
The Sumter Police Department says Imani Cox, 27, was at the Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital under a court-ordered evaluation. She was trying to leave on May 27 but hospital security and staff tried to detain her. Cox was allegedly aggressive and began to argue with staff, hitting at least two of them.
WGHP says one of the employees who was hit was a mental health technician named Kevin Robinson. They say he was hit in the groin, got sick and then became unresponsive. WGHP says Robinson passed away a few days later from his injuries but investigators are waiting for the autopsy results to confirm his cause of death.
Cox was transferred to another hospital for treatment. She has since been released, according to the SPD. She has been booked on recommended charges of assault and second-degree battery.
