ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A mother from New York state is now facing a second-degree manslaughter charge in the death of her 3-year-old son.
According to the Democrat & Chronicle and WHAM-TV, Rochester police arrested Andrea Lipton, 28, on Tuesday, more than a month after her son, Kei’mere Marshall, died at an area hospital July 14.
The arrest came two days after authorities arrested Lipton’s live-in boyfriend, 32-year-old Anthony Love, on second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter charges in the case, Rochester police said in a news release.
Investigators believe that Love abused Marshall while taking care of him in July, rupturing the boy’s spleen and fracturing his pelvis, the Democrat & Chronicle reported. Early July 11, authorities responded to the family’s Avenue C home and found the child lying on the floor, police said. The boy never regained consciousness and died three days later, the news release said.
“Lipton failed to seek medical treatment for her son, knowing that he was in pain and in need of said medical treatment for these injuries,” police said in the release. “Those injuries ultimately led to Kei’mere Marshall’s death.”

Both Lipton and Love are being held in the Monroe County Jail, the news outlets reported. No bail has been set for Love, while Lipton’s was set at $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond, according to WHAM.
