The alleged shooter has been detained, and the victim was taken to an area hospital by a private party, Washington State Police spokesperson Sgt. Darren Wright told The Olympian. Details about the victim and the alleged gunman have not been released, the newspaper reported

The two groups, with differing political views, clashed near the Capitol Campus at about 12:30 p.m. PT, Olympia police Lt. Paul Lower told reporters.

Approximately 100 law enforcement personnel were in the downtown area, as authorities prepared for a protest similar to one that occurred Dec. 5 in Olympia, The Olympian reported. Olympia police were assisted by Thurston County Sheriff’s deputies, the State Patrol and a SWAT vehicle, KIRO-TV reported.

“We’ve had sporadic confrontations between groups throughout the day,” Wright told The Associated Press.
