The two singers, who have been together for more than two years, shared a joint statement to their Instagram stories on Wednesday night to announce the split, People reported.
“Hey guys, we’ve decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever,” the joint statement said. “We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends. We so appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward.”
“He was so super hyper-focused on what he was doing. I never saw him that whole tour,” Cabello said in the 2019 documentary “Shawn Mendes: In Wonder.”
The two have collaborated on music for years, beginning with their first song together, “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” in November 2015, “Today” reported.
The pair were friends for several years before they began dating in July 2019, according to People. They made their first public appearance together as a couple the following month at the MTV Video Music Awards, where they performed their duet, “Señorita.”
The couple performed the Grammy-nominated hit again in November 2019 at the American Music Awards, according to People.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the couple moved to Miami to be with the Cabello family, E! Online reported.
