According to the Tennessean and WTVFMurfreesboro police said the incident occurred about 9 p.m. Wednesday outside the Murphy Center, where Riverdale High School held its commencement. The ceremony had just ended when shots were fired outside the venue, authorities said in a news release.

Authorities arrived to find two people with gunshot wounds, the release said. One died, while the other remains in “critical but stable condition,” police said.

The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office said authorities are still looking for the suspected shooter or shooters, the Tennessean reported. No further details were immediately available.

MTSU police and the Tennessee Highway Patrol are assisting with the investigation, authorities said.

Riverdale High will be closed Thursday “as a precaution,” Rutherford County Schools spokesman James Evans told WTVF.
