BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – A Michigan man is accused of child abuse in connection with the death of his 8-month-old child, authorities said.
Kyle Kregling, 29, of Battle Creek, was charged with first-degree child abuse, WOOD-TV reported. Kregling was arraigned on Wednesday, and bail was set at $150,000, the television station reported.
On Monday, officers found the infant unresponsive at a home, WXMI reported. According to police, Kregling said the infant was injured after falling out of bed, but police said the child’s injuries were not consistent with an accidental fall, the television station reported.
Detectives said Kregling later changed his version of events when he was interviewed, the television station reported.
The infant was taken to a hospital in Kalamazoo in critical condition and died there, WOOD reported.
An autopsy later revealed that homicide was the cause of death.
