William Dalton Milam, 62, of Milton, was arrested Monday and charged with two counts of promoting sexual performance of a child and 25 counts of possession of child pornography, according to a news release from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Milam, a pastor at Olivet Baptist Church in Milton, was booked into the Santa Rosa County Jail and is being held on $2.7 million bail, according to Santa Rosa County online booking records.

Milam had been listed as a former Navy chaplain and pastor, according to the Olivet Baptist Church’s website. That information has since been removed, WEAR-TV reported.

Milam gave a sermon for Sunday’s service, the Pensacola News Journal reported. The church has children and youth programs, in addition to regular church services, the newspaper reported.

An investigation into Milam’s online activities began when the FDLE received a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding the uploading of child pornography, the News Journal reported. The IP address was later traced to Milam’s residence, the newspaper reported.

The tip indicated there was reason to believe Milam had used the online platforms Tumblr and WeMe, according to the News Journal.

FDLE agents served a search warrant Monday morning at Milam’s residence, and they found multiple devices containing child pornography, according to the news release. The images depicted children as young as 3 years old engaged in sex acts, the News Journal reported.

“The church was shocked to hear about the arrest of its former pastor,” church officials wrote in a statement to WEAR. “We are in fervent prayer for all involved; including law enforcement as they seek to uncover the truth in this situation.”
