NEW ORLEANS – An 80-year-old New Orleans man is accused of helping to beat another man to death, then fleeing the scene in a van driven by his granddaughter, authorities said.

Robert Dickens Sr. was arrested Wednesday and charged with second-degree murder in the death of Anthony Grana, 51, of New Orleans, on Dec. 13, NOLA.com reported. His granddaughter, Alvion Dickens, 20, was arrested and charged with being an accessory after the fact, according to the website.

Dickens’ 20-year-old granddaughter, Alvion Dickens, was also arrested for being an accessory after the fact.

According to the New Orleans Police Department, Grana, who was severely beaten, was found by officials on Dec. 13 and taken to an area hospital, where he died three days later, WSDU-TV reported.

According to court records, Robert Dickens Sr. and another man were arguing with Grana and then followed him to another street, where they began punching and kicking him, the television station reported.

Dickens and the other man — whose name is not included in court filings — entered a white Ford E-350 van with a “Dickens Transportation” sign on the side, NOLA.com reported. The pair were driven away by Alvion Dickens, police allege.

Police obtained a warrant to arrest Robert Dickens Sr. and his granddaughter on Dec. 23 and took them into custody on Wednesday, according to NOLA.com.

Dickens’ bail was set at $50,000 on Wednesday, according to online court records. Alvion Dickens’ bail was set at $6,000.
