Law enforcement officials in California announced that more than 80 people have been rescued, including children, who they said were victims of human trafficking.
“Operation Reclaim and Rebuild” was held last week, The Associated Press reported.
Sheriff Alex Villanueva said the sweep recovered 74 adults and eight children, and led to the arrest of 34 suspected traffickers.
Approximately 200 sex buyers, known more commonly as “johns,” were taken into custody.
One person arrested, who was accused of running a prostitution ring across the country, was found with multiple guns, body armor and 100 rounds of ammunition in Contra Costa County, The Los Angeles Times reported.
In another sting,officers set up a date online with a woman in Costa Mesa. During a traffic stop, the man who had driven her was found to have an unregistered gun. They also discovered that the woman had been working for the man for two years, starting when she was underaged, the newspaper reported.
