SALT LAKE CITY – At least one person is dead and three others are recovering from injuries after gunfire erupted in a Utah apartment complex, authorities said.
According to KSTU-TV, the incident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. Monday at the Seasons at Pebble Creek complex in Salt Lake City. Salt Lake City police said they arrived to find a person who had been shot multiple times. Although crews tried to save the person using CPR and tourniquets, the victim died, police said.
Police said two other people who had been shot were being treated at nearby hospitals, The Salt Lake Tribune reported. Their injuries were considered serious and critical, police said. Another victim suffered a minor wound in an apparent assault but was not shot, police said.
Police originally believed a home invasion sparked the shooting but later determined that a fight inside one of the apartments likely was to blame, KSTU reported. Following the shooting, several people fled in two vehicles, which investigators located and secured, police told the news outlet.
As of late Monday, police had not announced any arrests in connection with the case, KSTU reported.
