BRATTLEBORO, Vt. – The ex-boyfriend of a Massachusetts woman found dead in Vermont was shot and killed Tuesday in a confrontation with police, WFXT is reporting.

Update 1:28 a.m. EDT July 20: In a Facebook post late Tuesday, Massachusetts State Police said 34-year-old Matthew Davis, a person of interest in the death of Mary Anderson, 23, was fatally shot Tuesday evening “during a confrontation with members of the Vermont State Police and the Brattleboro Police Department” in West Brattleboro, Vermont.

Original report: A missing Massachusetts woman was found dead in Vermont on Tuesday, and police are looking to speak with her ex-boyfriend.

The Vermont State Police on Facebook said that officers located a woman’s body Tuesday morning in Brattleboro, Vermont. They were able to identify the body through their preliminary investigation as Mary Anderson, 23, who was reported missing over the weekend in Harvard, Massachusetts.

According to WFXT, Anderson’s body was found in a truck that had been of interest to law enforcement in connection with her disappearance.

Anderson was reported missing on Sunday, July 17, by her family. She was last seen in New Hampshire, according to the Harvard Police Department.

VSP said that they are looking to speak with her ex-boyfriend, Matthew Davis, 34, who they believe may have some relevant information regarding their investigation. Police describe Davis as white, about 5 feet, 6 inches tall, with brown hair and blue eyes.

Massachusetts State Police and the Worcester District Attorney’s Office are assisting the Vermont State Police with the investigation, according to WFXT.
