Couple indicted in deadly shooting of 7-year-old boy
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A man and woman have been indicted in a drive-by shooting that killed a 7-year-old boy on the Fourth of July in Memphis, Tennessee.
Kelby Shorty, 7, was playing in the front yard of his home when he was shot and killed when a sedan drove up and a passenger got out shouting and firing a gun. Two other women were shot and hospitalized with critical injuries.

Two people have been indicted for the shooting.
Monday, the Shelby County District Attorney announced the indictments against Jordan Pittman, 19, and Angieline Kennedy, 21. In a news release, prosecutors said the two were indicted on multiple charges, including first-degree murder, attempted first degree murder, and reckless endangerment.
Vigils were held immediately after the shootings to remember Kelby, WHBQ reported at the time. At the time, Kelby’s grand aunt Tosha Thomas told WHBQ she believed the motive for the shooting was an argument at a nearby gas station. “I was very devastated. This has taken a toll on us. It really has,” Thomas said.

Photos and teddy bears are placed in remembrance of the 7-year-old shot and killed in Memphis, Tenn. on July 4, 2021.
Bullets also hit the home where five other people, including three children under age 10, were inside, WHBQ reported. Nobody inside the home was hit.
Prosecutors didn’t offer any insight into the motive for the shooting, saying only in a news release that Pittman was arrested two days after the shooting, and Kennedy was arrested two days after that.
