SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. – Authorities in Georgia have charged a babysitter with murder in the death of a 2-year-old girl entrusted into her care.

Kirstie Flood, 29, is facing two counts of felony murder and one count each of malice murder, aggravated battery and cruelty to children, the Rockdale-Newton Citizen reported.

Authorities have not identified the 2-year-old girl publicly, but family members confirmed to WSB-TV that the girl’s name is Fallon Fridley.

According to the Sandy Springs Police Department, an investigation was launched Dec. 9 after a medical call was received regarding an unresponsive child inside a Sandy Springs apartment. First responders rushed the child to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, where she was later pronounced dead, the Citizen reported.

Police also told the Citizen that an autopsy performed on the child revealed that she suffered severe injuries that resulted in her death during her care by the suspect.

The child’s parents told WSB-TV that Flood, a close friend for the past five years, had been their full-time babysitter since August and that they never suspected she was capable of harming the child.

Kristin Fridley told the TV station that Flood called her hysterically crying the day Fallon Fridley died and claimed the child hit her head on a slide at the playground, but treating physicians determined that the child’s injuries were not consistent with Flood’s account of events.

Meanwhile, a warrant stated that when police searched Flood’s phone, they discovered she had been searching items such as “what type of people enjoy abusing other people’s children” and “what does it mean to have a sudden urge to beat a child that’s not yours.”

“It’s like this evil was in front of my face for years, and I never saw it,” Kristin Fridley told WSB-TV.
