PASADENA, Calif. – A 10-year-old California boy was seriously injured in a shooting while he played outside his Pasadena home Sunday, police said.

Pasadena police confirmed gunfire erupted while the boy played in front of his Parke Street house at around 3 p.m. The child reportedly sustained life-threatening injuries after multiple bullets struck him, KABC reported.

One witness told the TV station that she heard as many as 20 shots.

Pasadena Police Department Lt. Carolyn Gordon told KTLA that officers are searching for at least three male suspects and a light-colored sedan, but a more detailed description was not available.

The boy, whom police do not believe was the intended target of the shooting, was alert and conscious when he was transported to an area hospital in serious but stable condition, KABC reported.
