“Insecure” fans are responding with a collective neck roll after hearing the popular cult classic will not return to HBO until 2020.
HBO confirmed Monday that the fourth season of the comedy, starring and created by Issa Rae, will not air until 2020, according to Deadline.
“Insecure” follows Issa Dee, played by Rae, and her friends as they navigate love and career in their late 20s.
The star’s busy schedule with movies and other projects has led to the delay, HBO programming chief Casey Bloys told Vulture. Rae’s movie “Little,” which was filmed in Atlanta, is currently in theaters.
“Well, Issa became a big movie star!” Bloys told the magazine. “We’re not the first place to deal with this, but when you’re in business with very creative and talented people, there’s a lot more opportunities for people to do things. Issa, I think, partly wanted a break to come back to it fresh.”
Though those who have watched Rae’s star rise since her runaway YouTube hit “Awkward Black Girl” celebrated her success, they also bemoaned the interruption of their must-see television show.

Some even blamed the delay on the return of Lawrence, Issa Dee’s ex, to season 3.
