TOMBALL, Texas – A man fighting the coronavirus whose wife prayed daily at the hospital for his recovery has died.
Michelle Gutierrez went to the hospital daily for more than a month to pray for her husband David Gutierrez while he was in a coma as he battled the coronavirus, KRIV reported.
He died Aug. 14.
The couple was married 10 years and have five children.
“His last words (were), ‘you know, I love you, I love you, see you later … if I don’t make it, know that I put up a good fight’, he said I put up a good fight, and ‘I want you to know that I love you, and I will always love you and remember you,” Michelle Gutierrez said.
Despite showing no symptoms, Michelle Gutierrez tested positive for the virus in June. At the time, David, 53, tested negative. However, he soon began to show signs of the illness and was taken to a hospital.
People of other faiths also joined Michelle in prayer.
“They got a lot of hope from David’s story. You know, and at the end of this, I didn’t feel angry … Do not lose your hope, Even if your loved one is at the brink of death, or they have survived, or they have passed on like David, hold onto that faith,” she said. “We need to educate ourselves and do whatever it takes to not spread this virus. It is not a hoax, it is real.”
