The trooper, Aaron Ranker, raced to help Sharie Madrid, who was trapped in traffic because of a wreck on Interstate 40 in Dickson, Tennessee, WTVF reported.

Ranker has a background as an EMT and knew immediately Madrid would not be able to get to the hospital fast enough to give birth, so Ranker helped deliver the baby in the front seat of the car, WSMV reported.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol tweeted a picture of Ranker with Madrid, announcing the baby boy was healthy.

Madrid said the baby arrived three weeks early, so she and her husband have not yet decided on a name, WTVF reported.
