DoorDash driver rescues toddler wandering Detroit’s 8 Mile Road
DETROIT – A DoorDash driver is now being called a hero after rescuing a toddler found wandering on the road alone.
The 2-year-old was found on Detroit’s 8 Mile Road at about 11:20 a.m. Sunday, Detroit police told NBC News.
The child was found by a DoorDash driver, who put the child into his truck to keep him warm while he called the police, NBC News reported.
The driver, Robert Jackson III, told WJBK, “He was standing in the middle of 8 Mile like this, he was shaking, his hands and his lips were purple and his fingers were purple.” The toddler was wearing only a diaper and socks, and it was 38 degrees at the time.
Police brought the toddler to a hospital and found his mother, who told investigators the child had been left alone with his 16-year-old brother and “slipped out of the front door,” NBC News reported.
The driver said he wasn’t sure how long the child had been outside, but was glad he could help, telling WJBK, “It feels good that I was there — I don’t know how to explain it.”
