According to WCYB-TV, the deadly drive-by shooting occurred shortly before 6 a.m. on Blevins Road near Elizabethton. Carter County sheriff’s deputies responded to find a girl who had been lying on her couch when a bullet flew through the wall, striking her, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Crews rushed the girl to a nearby hospital, where she died, the release said.

Deputies later took one person into custody and are seeking at least one more person of interest in connection with the incident, according to WCYB. No charges have been filed, the news outlet reported.

Carter County Sheriff Dexter Lunceford is seeking surveillance footage of the area from the time of the shooting, according to the news release. Anyone with information should call investigators at 423-542-1849.

“Please call us directly with any information you have, and do not post it on social media so we can investigate as quickly as possible,” Lunceford said in a statement.
