REMERTON, Ga. – A Georgia man was arrested Friday in connection with a double homicide last week, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said.

Ronald Welsh, 20, of Valdosta, was charged with two counts of malice murder, two counts of felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, the Valdosta Daily Times reported.

Welsh was taken into custody in Cook County after a woman was stopped for speeding by deputies, the GBI said in a statement.

Welsh is accused in the May 28 deaths of Sherrod Gore, 23, of Adel, and Jamar Walton, 21, of Valdosta, WALB reported. The two men were found shot in a bank parking lot across the street from Lucky’s Bar in Remerton, the television station reported. Gore died at the scene, while Walton later died at an area hospital, the television station reported.

The GBI release stated that witnesses said an altercation took place at the bar and led to the shootings, WALB reported.

The GBI and Remerton Ppolice were assisted in the investigation by the Valdosta Police Department Crime Scene Unit, Valdosta police, the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Marshals Office and the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, the Daily Times reported.
