BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. – Investigators in Minnesota believe that a 3-year-old boy shot and killed his 2-year-old brother last week in a Brooklyn Park apartment, according to KMSP-TV.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune previously reported that the incident occurred shortly after 7 a.m. Thursday at the Huntington Place apartment complex. Police responded to a report of a shooting and arrived to find a 2-year-old who had suffered a gunshot wound, authorities said. Emergency crews rushed the toddler to a nearby hospital, where he later died, KMSP reported.

Multiple adults were in the home when the shooting occurred, WCCO-TV reported. Although the 911 caller said the child had shot himself, witnesses told police conflicting stories, according to the news station and the Star Tribune.

Police arrested the victim’s mother, Osheonia Nypre Hodges, 20, and grandmother, Sherrillyn Kay Mosley, 57, alleging that they tried to cover up the crime, Brooklyn Park police said in a Facebook post. Police are also seeking Keyshawn Lemont Cosey-Gray, 20, in connection with the shooting, the department said.

If you have information about the shooting, call police at 763-493-8222.
